Kicking off a new year on our blog we thought it would introduce you to Michael Gibson, one of our new Project Managers here at Lanview. Michael is already getting stuck into some exciting projects with us, and below we find out more about Michael’s background, what he’s currently working on, and what gets up to in his spare time!

Michael Gibson

Hi Michael, where were you before joining Lanview?

I had primarily been working on projects within the retail and supermarket sectors, most recently at Fit Out UK, then prior to that 8 years at Interserve. My most recent role was acting as the principle contractor on the delivery of general maintenance for large sized Tesco and Sainsburys framework projects.

These projects involved a variety of different tasks, from looking back through historic information on databases then checking Site restraints and arranging surveys and building control to bring that information in line to what is expected. I managed subcontractors involved with demolition, groundworks and drainage, partitioning works, ceiling installations, commercial restaurant installations, installing joinery and finishing trades. Other main clients I worked alongside included Waitrose, Selfridges, Sainsbury’s and Metro Bank.

My previous Site management qualifications allow me to have an excellent perspective on understanding a project, and I enjoy troubleshooting on-the-ground, real-time issues.

What does your new role involve, and what project(s) are you currently working on?

My new role is as a Project Manager, currently working on a 60 week project at Integra Business Park in Milton Keynes, where we’re creating a warehouse from out of the ground. Currently we’re at the stage where we have broken ground, and are currently completing the ground works elements to be ready for steel erecting. The building works elements to be completed are: brickwork, drainage, utility enabling, external cladding and curtain walling, roofing, mechanical, electrical, partitioning, flooring and ceiling works, so it’s a very detailed project.

I’m also working on demolishing a sports pavilion at Selhurst and creating a new value 1.3 million one (more on this special project soon!). There’s also a contract where we’re working on the pre-start for a student accommodation project in central London ,with an estimated 4 million value, which is due to start in the next couple of months.

What appealed about working at Lanview when it came to applying for the job?

Lanview is a smaller company than the one I was working at before and that provides a better working environment, with less departmentalisation and greater insight into other projects. Everyone helps each other and my opinions and knowledge are listened to and taken on board.

What do you enjoying doing outside of work?

I have 2 small children aged 5 and 3, so most of my spare time is at the park or playing lego!
