Welcome Ian to the Lanview team. Below, Ian describes why he has always wanted to work in construction, what he enjoys most about his new role at Lanview, and why charity is close to his heart.

What interest’s you most about construction?

I’ve always been interested in how things in construction are put together; the costs, materials and new methods of construction. This interest drove me to pursue a professional qualification in Quantity Surveying.

I’m currently studying for my BSc Hons degree one day a week whilst working at Lanview. This part-time way of working means I can supplement what I learn with real experience and can become fully competent at the same time.

My past work experience included working with a main contractor on the Battersea Power Station Phase 2 and projects for Tunbridge Wells county council.

What do you enjoy most about your new role?

I wanted to work with Lanview because of the variety of clients they work with, in the retail and commercial sectors. I’m already learning different ways of working and gaining an invaluable range of experiences.

Because every project is different, thinking out of the box is sometimes necessary. At Lanview we are encouraged to problem solve and be critical thinkers. I really enjoy this part of the job most, and in coming up with the best solution for our client.

What do you get up to when you’re not at work?

When I’m not working I like to play the acoustic guitar and also manage a charity close to my heart called the Kevin Kararwa Leukaemia Trust – named after my brother. KKLT raise much-needed funds and awareness for blood cancer and stem cell donation in the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community.
